When it comes to old bars, Arizona could be the Mack-daddy of the United States! There are so many locations, with so many fighting for the “oldest” honor, try to get to as many as you and your liver can handle.
Oldest bar in Arizona: The Palace Restaurant and Saloon (Prescott), 1877
The Palace Restaurant and Saloon, in Prescott: Operating since 1877, this is considered the oldest restaurant and saloon in Arizona. It was rebuilt in 1901 after a fire. Fun Fact: When the saloon was on fire, the patrons at the saloon, picked up the solid wood bar and moved it across the street, so their bar wouldn’t burn and they could continue drinking!
St. Elmo Bar (Bisbee), 1902
St. Elmo Bar, in Bisbee: Established in 1902, it is known as the oldest continuously operating bar in Arizona. Bisbee is such an old town, so it should have an old bar! This was an amazing town and of course the bar was lots of fun.
The Bikini Lounge (Phoenix), 1947
The Bikini Lounge, in Phoenix: Opened in 1947, it is one of the oldest bars in downtown Phoenix.
1889 Saloon, in Phoenix: Located in The Stockyards, it is a historic, potentially haunted, spot established later but featuring old-world charm.
Rusty Spur Saloon, in Scottsdale: Opened in 1951, located in the former Farmer's Bank of Scottsdale. This is such a fun place to go, where you feel welcomed by everyone there.
