Brief History/Information
Munich Germany was founded in 1158, and the name Munich comes from the German word Mönche (monks), because Benedictine monks once lived in the area. In 1506, Munich is the capital and largest city of Bavaria. Munich was central to both World Wars.
*Special Note: Oktoberfest begins the end of September. In 2019, the first weekend was September 21, 2019. Tickets are required to enter the majority of the tents.
What we did
We came as a group to take part in the Oktoberfest activities. Greg and I stayed at the Aloft, while the rest of the group stayed at Hotel Meier. We checked in our hotels, changed into our Oktoberfest clothing.
We first stopped and ate a fabulous meal at Schnitzelwirt. After food, we took the train to the Oktoberfest tents and our first stop was the Lowenbrau tent for a beer before our reservation at the Braurosl Tent. We then went to our reservation for the Braurosl Tent to start Oktoberfest festivities. We met the person we purchased the tickets from and went in for our assigned time and table. WOW!! Is all I can really say. What I saw, I was not expecting at the least bit. There were so many people, yet it was all so well done and organized and no hostility. What an amazing experience! Each tent ticket comes with a half chicken and two liters of beer, and some tents come with even more food!
The next day we had the morning to ourselves to explore Munich. Since we had time, we walked the old downtown area and ate at Haxenbauer (known for their very excellent pig knuckles). We didn’t have to be at our tent (Schottenhamel Festhalle) until 3:00, so we decided to walk to the tent area (about a 10 minute easy walk). *NOTE: Do not eat before coming to this tent! Each ticket comes with two liters of beer, chicken dinner, and meat and cheese plates; a ton of food.
The next day we walked to Hofbräuhaus München and ate and drank and had fun. We then went to the new town hall where the clock-tower (Rathaus-Glockenspiel) is. We had some drinks on the square at Wildmosers Restaurant-Cafe am Marienplatz - München. We paid three Euros to go up in the Glockenspiel and enjoy the beautiful view of the square. Later we ate at Andechser am Dom (Restaurant Alpehof)-next to Munich Cathedral (Frauenkirche), this was a really good find.
Tent Information
It was around June when we started searching for the tent tickets. We did a Google search of all the large tents, and went to the websites to see which tents sold tickets from their website. That’s when we found the 10 person table, it was about $65-70 per person. The price included 2 L per person, plus sausage and cheese tray, and the main course. Reservations are for three hours.
