OLDEST IN SAN FRANCISCO, CA

The Old Ship Saloon, 1851 - It all started with the Gold Rush ship "Arkansas". It arrived in San Francisco Bay in December of 1849, hitting some rocks along Alcatraz Island. It then became land-locked with the filling in of the shallow bay with landfill. A doorway was cut in the bow and a gang plank was used to board her — she became The Old Ship Ale House. The front of the hull still remains submerged underneath the very saloon. It no longer resembles anything ‘shiplike’, but it’s still there.
