Nevada: the oldest bars
When you think of Nevada, the Old West automatically comes to mind (and gambling too). Loads of history and true western stories fill every old bar in this state.
OLDEST IN NEVADA
Genoa Bar and Saloon, 1853
Genoa Bar and Saloon: Located in Genoa, Nevada. This is the oldest bar in Nevada and was established in 1853. This bar is a great place in such a small town that’s packed with history. The mirror itself has a great story too!
OLDEST IN CARSON CITY, NEVADA
The Old Globe Saloon - built in 1875, oldest pub in Carson City. Nice place and owner.
Bank Saloon - The Bank Saloon has been around since 1899. This has been all renovated and doesn’t look or feel like an old bar, but it’s worth a shot to go in.
OLDEST IN RENO, NEVADA
The Alturas Bar was founded in 1915. This is your typical old bar… open 24 hours, allows smoking and gambling. They have a downstairs cellar where music is played. We didn’t have any music when we were there, but I believe the music is more Punk/Alternative.
OLDEST IN VIRGINIA CITY, NEVADA
The Millionaires Washoe Club of 1862, the oldest saloon in Virginia City
Delta Saloon, 1863, there are two remarkable ‘claim to fame’ here… one of their most famous customers was Samuel Clemens (aka: Mark Twain), he worked across the street at the newspaper, and the infamous “Suicide table”, which has some pretty amazing history.
Ponderosa Saloon, 1864, started as a bank in 1864. In the 1870s it transitioned in to a saloon. It still has the original walk-in bank vault from 1864 and they offer underground mine tours (we didn’t do that).
Palace Saloon, 1875,
Bucket of Blood Saloon, 1876, this place is GREAT! So great, we went there twice!
Silver Queen Hotel & Saloon, 1876, tallest saloon. Great place, has a wedding chapel and hotel rooms too!
