Brief History/Information (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Delphi was considered by ancient Greeks to be the center of the world. According to myth, Zeus released two eagles from opposite ends of the world, they met at Delphi, marking it as the universal center, and the site was sacred to Apollo, god of prophecy, music, and truth.
Also in Delphi, is the Oracle of Delphi or the Delphic Oracle (Pythia). She was a priestess of Apollo and sat on a tripod above a chasm inside the Temple of Apollo. She delivered prophetic utterances, often in an ecstatic state to individuals seeking personal guidance. Delphi’s oracle influenced the founding of colonies, major wars, and internal Greek politics.
What we did
We drove about two hours from Patras to Delphi and stayed the night at Fedriades Hotel Delphi, Greece. We checked in, and immediately got ready to visit the Archaeological Site of Delphi. (see brief history/information above). This archaelogical site is totally amazing! There is so much intact and well preserved that we spent so much time just looking and learning!
We ate dinner at Phileo Cafe Bar and all I can say is WOW! The food, the service, and the views are amazing, and we got our beer in a frosted mug! Go near sunset if you can. We walked and shopped the town and went to a few more places for snacks and drinks… I think every restaurant has an incredible view.
